Ask HN Learning Resources

Turn an Ask HN topic into a cited study list of books, courses, articles, and community context.

Overview

Ask HN spreads useful recommendations across separate threads and comment chains, which makes a focused study list slow to assemble and hard to trace. This workflow turns one topic into a resource guide with community context and source links. You get a reviewable starting point for study, not a claim that popularity proves quality. Collect HN gathers the matching discussion material, then Write Recommendations organizes it into a Markdown list. You can inspect the collector and edit the curation instructions in visual workflows before you run it.

Pipeline

  1. Collect HN (collect-hn, script) receives the configured topic and returns matching Ask HN thread material.
  2. Write Recommendations (write-recs, agent) turns that material into a cited learning-resource list.

Inputs

  • Topic. The subject Collect HN searches for. The default is the topic saved in the collector, which you should review before running.
  • Curation instructions. The prompt Write Recommendations uses to organize the collected material. The default is the prompt saved in the agent node.

Outputs

  • Study list. A Markdown artifact containing learning resources, community context, and links to the matching Ask HN discussions.

FAQ

Can I use a narrow topic?

Yes. A precise topic can produce a tighter resource list. If Collect HN finds little discussion material, broaden the topic and run it again.

Does the workflow verify every recommendation?

No. It organizes recommendations from Ask HN discussions and retains source context. You should review the cited threads before adopting a resource.

Is the result a complete study plan?

No. The output is a research-backed starting list. You decide how to order it and how much time to spend.

Can I rerun the same topic?

Yes. Run the saved topic again when you want to review newer discussion material. Compare the resulting list yourself because this workflow does not create a change report.
