# Scheduling an Automation

## Create a task

Open **Automations** in the sidebar. The screens call each item a **task**. [Automations](/docs/key-concepts/agent/automations) explains how this differs from a chat you drive and from a workflow schedule.

Select **New task**, then **Blank task**. **Draft with agent** places the description you enter into **Instructions**. You still complete the task setup and save.

**Instructions** is the prompt the Agent runs. It is required. **Task name** is optional. For example: each weekday, summarize yesterday's completed runs and note any that failed.

**Model** starts at **Default model**. Pick another model only if this task should use a different one.

Set **Frequency** and the time. A one-time task needs a future date and time. **Notify me** controls whether you are told about runs. Keep the default unless you want to change run notifications.

Select **Create task**. The task page opens.

## Manage a task

**Run now** starts a run. **Open** on a run opens the Agent conversation for that task.

**Active** means the task runs on its schedule. Switch it to **Paused** to stop scheduled runs. **Run now** still works while the task is paused.

**Edit task** changes the prompt or the schedule. Select **Save changes** to store the edit. If the task says **Needs auth**, edit it and save to authenticate.

**Delete task** removes the task.
