# Connecting a Custom MCP Server

## Before you start

If custom MCP servers are available for your workspace, open **Settings > Agent > MCP servers**. A custom server is a tool server you add so the Agent can call it.

Custom MCP servers let the Agent call external tools. If an external tool needs to connect to Trickest instead, see [Agent integrations](/docs/developer-tools/sdk/agent-integrations).

If you do not see **MCP servers**, this workspace does not offer custom servers. The rest of the Agent still works.

## Add a server

Select **Add server**.

**Name** is required. Use letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores. The name must be unique. You cannot rename the server later.

**Server URL** is the address of the server. **Transport** is **HTTP** or **SSE**.

**Headers** are optional. Add an `Authorization` header if the server expects a bearer token. Header values are hidden after you save.

Leave **Enabled** on when the Agent should use the server. A disabled server stays in the list, and the Agent will not connect to it.

Select **Add server**. The server is saved. Saving does not check that the server is reachable.

## Use and change it

On a later turn, the Agent can call the server's tools. A call that needs approval stops on **Permission required**. [Using the Agent](/docs/using-the-app/agent/using-the-agent) covers that prompt.

Use **Edit** to update the connection settings, or to enable or disable the server. To use a different name, delete the server and add it again.

**Delete** removes the server and its tools from the Agent.
